Md. Rakibul Islam is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Construction Engineering at the University of Central Florida, Florida, USA. He is pursuing his Ph. D. under the supervision of Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Aty, the leading Professor of Transportation Safety, and his current focus is developing framework for real-time crash likelihood, severity, types, and traffic restoration time prediction. Earlier he was employed as "Assistant Professor" in the Transportation Engineering Division of the Department of Civil Engineering at Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET), Gazipur, Bangladesh since October 2018. He has two master's degrees and one graduate certificate. He received his first M.Sc. in Transportation Engineering from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in June 2018. He never stopped learning from new and cutting-edge technology, and after coming to the USA, He obtained his second MS in Smart Cities Engineering from the University of Central Florida, USA in 2022. He also completed the requirements for obtaining his Graduate Certificate in SAS and Data Mining from Department of Statistics and Data Science of University of Central Florida, USA. Immediately after his Bachelor’s from BUET back in March 2016, he started his career as a “Lecturer” in the Department of Civil Engineering at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, Dhaka. Later, in August 2016, He joined as a “Lecturer” in the Department of Civil Engineering at Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET), Gazipur. Mr. Islam has a research and professional track record in Traffic Safety, Artificial Intelligence, Intelligent Transportation Systems, Big Data, Public Transport, Traffic Flow Theory, Transport Modelling, Evacuation Modelling, Emergency Route Planning, Transportation in Developing Countries, and Sustainable Urban Planning and Management. In addition, he has experience working on more than 20 funded projects in USA and Bangladesh. He is also affiliated with various professional organizations and has demonstrated leadership and management skills in professional and volunteer organizations and activities.
