Mr. Howard's Classroom

“Of course it is possible to get people to do something. That is what rewards, punishments, and other instruments of control are all about. But the desire to do something, much less to do it well, simply cannot be imposed; in this sense, it is a mistake to talk about motivating other people. All we can do is set up certain conditions that will maximize the probability of their developing an interest in what they are doing and remove the conditions that function as constraints.”

Alfie Kohn, Punished by Rewards (chapter 10)

I'm Done!

Make Up Work Rules

Essays, Short Responses, Assignments, and Practice Quizzes

  • All work that received less than 100% of the points can be revised and resubmitted.

Quizzes and Tests

  • These CANNOT be retaken. If you are unsatisfied with your score, make up for it by completing the extra credit option on the essays, short responses, or quizzes. IF YOU ARE ABSENT, you need to speak with Mr. Howard so that he can administer the test for you DURING class time.

Reading Projects (MELP Only)

  • If you turn in a reading project, and you do not receive the grade you want, no worries! Just like essays and other assignments, you can revise your reading project and turn it in again.

Notebook Checks (This does not apply for remote learning.)

  • When you miss notes in class, you will find them on Canvas. Fill in the notes you missed and show the teacher your notebook on the next notebook check day.

Regular Class Work

  • This can always be made up until the end of the quarter.

*A late penalty deduction of 20% applies for most late assignments.

*ALL grades are final after the quarter ends.
