Sequoia Middle School • Art 7/8
During the trimester, students will express themselves creatively through traditional drawing and painting mediums as they develop art skills and concepts. Visual art, a language of communication, is a way to understand the world through line, shape, color, space, texture and value.
The visual arts curriculum includes recognizing art as a form of expression, identifying and using the elements and principles of art and design, and exploring the role of artists in society throughout history, all while having fun in a nurturing and safe environment. Students are encouraged to be creative, think critically, and solve problems visually. Students will learn new art vocabulary, art methods and techniques, and will form a deeper connection to the fine arts.
I'm passionate about making art, teaching art, and appreciating art. I earned my B.F.A. at the University of Florida and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in entertainment advertising. While developing campaigns for the movie studios I was also pursuing my interest in fine art; exhibiting and selling my paintings in local art spaces. I enjoy working in a variety of mediums from painting to printmaking to computer graphics. My interest in fine art led me to teaching and the credential program at California State University Northridge.
As a teacher, my goal is to develop enriching lessons that broaden the thinking of my students while providing a safe and enthusiastic environment in which they can learn the rigor necessary for academic success.
I believe everyone has creative potential and enjoy helping my students unlock their artisitic talents through a greater understanding of art processes, history, and techniques. I am glad to be a part of the SMS community; working with staff, students, and parents to create an exciting learning experience for everyone.
