When I was first studying Revelation and bracing myself for the unfamiliar, I was surprised to find so many familiar phrases and scenes of worship. So many hymns and worship songs have been inspired by verses in Revelation. I often find myself with a song stuck in my head all day after reading in Revelation.

They are roughly in the order of appearance in the book of Revelation. Someplace I have a document with Bible verses and then songs. I made this playlist when my sister in law was suffering from breast cancer and nearing death. It brought great comfort to her.

By the end of my week-long recording session, I had twenty-four completed tunes; fifteen hymn arrangements for the Adoration album and nine improvised songs I never planned or expected to record. Those nine extra songs meant I was just a few songs away from having enough music to release yet another album. I was stoked!

This project has been a wonderful journey of musical surprises. Revelation is unlike any of my other albums in that a good portion of it is improvised. Of the nineteen songs on the album, thirteen were recorded without any real forethought of what they would become. I just sat down at the piano, played these songs of praise and let the arrangements come to life over the course of a few takes.

"Revelation: Solo Piano for Prayer & Worship is the follow-up to David Nevue's 2007 release Adoration. Where Adoration was mostly Nevue's arrangements of traditional hymns, Revelation is made up mostly of improvisations on hymns and contemporary praise songs plus three Nevue originals. What is especially interesting is that just a few years ago, Nevue was not entirely comfortable with his improvisational skills. Recording the album in Joe Bongiorno's Piano Haven Studio was so comfortable for Nevue that he just relaxed and let the music flow. The results are spectacular and nearly as personal as an album of original compositions. Revelation contains a whopping nineteen tracks and a running time of more than 70 minutes, but there is no filler or any weak tracks - a great album from start to finish!

In relation to his music career David also authored the book How to Promote Your Music Successfully on the Internet and founded the educational Music Biz Academy website that helps independent musicians market then advance their individual music careers. David also founded the free internet based Whisperings : Solo Piano Radio program having nearly a million listeners each month. Coinciding like an open ministry of personal faith, Revelation:Solo Piano for Prayer & Worship is an offertory album of 19 intimate peaceful songs of beauty within, given the honored hymns of worship that persons with or without their own personal inner beliefs will enjoy.

Revelation : Solo Piano for Prayer & Worship contains 5 new hymn arrangements, 4 original songs and improvisations on 10 modern worship classics and is David's eleventh release with a rededicated focus on melodic piano music offering a deep spiritual structure. Revelation is much like past albums by original content and inclusion of new compositions on age old song hymns from centuries past where church attendees from many religious faiths will recognize in the first few measures.

David Nevue has a limited degree of formal music studies so recites much of his songs from memory, but believe me this is not apparent when you witness the beautiful music granted to this devout Christian man also identified by a skillful aptitude in his composing abilities and creative spirit while performing his personalized music. You will discover that David offers his hymns like an open book with a nice variety of thought and feel on each song he performs. "Softly and Tenderly" is shown in a like reverence by an emotion filled call during the gentle yet moving piano melody that is more than worthy of this ages old hymn.

"Blessed Assurance" is an onward moving testament by the lively melody set in a moderately faster tempo that reveals the resolute nature of his work. "Holy, Holy, Holy" is a lighter piano improvisation validating the positive hallmarks of the holy trinity and "Amazing Love ( You Are My King )" is a more introspective song of tribute and another positive affirmation for the melodies of honor he steadfastly produces. David's version of this Contemporary Christian music hymn is serene by an inner reflection that stands apart from most modern versions and at the same time, celebrates his faithful commitment to Solo Piano music exalting a beautiful reverence overfilled with joyful praise".

"Bought this for a friend after listening to a few "preview" songs on the computer, and then ran out and bought myself a CD as well. This is quite worshipful and offers peace after a hectic day. The artist plays so you hear the words in the piano-only orchestration and the affect is gentle worship."

I'm not religious, but songs like this are just amazing, very high energy, incredibly powerful choir with sounds like they are coming from a heavenly force. I would like to find more like it but when I search for similar songs (or all the other songs on the album) they are low energy, lots of hymns and talking and just overall very blahhh. They dont have that same sense of a heavenly force exploding into my soul and eardrums.

The book of Revelation has inspired many hymns and songs over the years. The throne-room scene in Rev 4-5 has spawned a number of "Worthy" songs. Also the vision of the conquering King in Rev 19, the judgment in Rev 20, and the vision of heaven in Rev 21-22 have been particularly rich. "Crossing Jordan" and the "River of Life" are themes found in many songs. I haven't tried to be comprehensive here, just collect some of the songs that seem more popular. Enjoy. -- Pastor Ralph

And that joy stems from a confident expectation that God will accomplish everything he has promised. The final songs of Revelation describe God overcoming all evil, the nations bowing down in worship, and the bride of Christ finally beholding her groom, King Jesus, at a never-ending royal celebration of grace.

Will our earthly songs look and sound exactly like the songs of heaven? No. But can the songs of heaven motivate us to sing with greater passion, understanding, confidence, and anticipation now? Absolutely. G.K. Beale writes,

Hymns are among the most recognizable forms of worship in Revelation. The songs often appear in heavenly worship scenes embedded in the hair-raising cycles of judgment. This juxtaposition reminds the Church to worship, even in difficult times.

The lyrics in Revelation are profoundly theological, proclaiming the nature, character and work of God. These hymns interpret the narratives around them, suggesting that worship songs have a teaching function.

While worship includes more than music, the sheer number of songs in Revelation underscores the vital importance of singing. Therefore, worship leaders should continually evaluate the content and function of their set lists and catalog of songs to ensure they are theologically grounded and God-focused. Revelation 15:3 provides an example of such a song:

Last week we finished chapter 22 of Revelation. But I want to end this series with three bird's eye views of the book. And today's overview will be looking at it through the lens of the songs of Revelation. I'm only going to read one of those songs this morning. We will read all of chapter 15 and continue to the results of that song in chapter 16:1. But the sermon is not going to stick here; it is going to traipse all over the book.

Well, we see a similar thing in the book of Revelation. There are 28 songs in this book.1 Some are only tiny fragments of songs. But several of these songs result in God's immediate judgments being poured out. There seems to be a cause and effect relationship between at least some of those songs and the judgments that follow. We will be seeing that just as the prayer meeting of chapter 8 released regiment after regiment of angels bringing judgments and spiritual warfare, there is exactly the same kind of cause and effect relationship between the Songs of Zion and the retreat of the enemy. And I want to investigate why that is the case. Why is some worship music powerful in tearing down strongholds and making demons flee while other music has zero impact upon those demons? It doesn't seem to bother them at all.

I believe the first reason is that Jesus is present in the songs that send the enemy into retreat. Did you know that Jesus sings in the midst of the congregation? Hebrews 2:12 says of Jesus, "...in the midst of the assembly I will sing praise to You." Likewise Jesus prays in the midst of the assembly. Let me remind you of that. Turn to Revelation 8. This is not one of the songs, but it parallels the songs in its effect. Chapter 8, beginning at verse 1.

Well, the same is true of music. When Jesus is present, God listens, our worship is accepted, and our songs have spiritual power against demons. But without Christ's presence, our worship music is actually an abomination to God. In Amos 5 God told the church of that day,

21 I hate, I despise your feast days,And I do not savor your sacred assemblies.22 Though you offer Me burnt offerings and your grain offerings,I will not accept them,Nor will I regard your fattened peace offerings.23 Take away from Me the noise of your songs,For I will not hear the melody of your stringed instruments.

In the same way, you can almost guarantee that the worship music of the church of Laodicea in chapter 3 had zero impact upon the enemy because God was not pleased with their worship. In fact, Jesus was so disgusted with their lukewarmness that He was ready to vomit the church out of His mouth. Chapter 3:20 shows that He had already left the church and was standing outside knocking on the church door. And the text says that the church didn't realize that Jesus was absent. They went on with their preaching, their prayers, their songs, and their programs as if everything was fine. But it was not. There was no power in their worship because Jesus was absent. 17dc91bb1f
