Sarah Ellis

Sarah Ellis teaches both graduate and undergraduate music theory and serves as the Associate Director of the OU School of Music. Her research focuses on the creation of meaning within musical works and draws on a variety of critical approaches to meaning including semiotics, deconstruction and Lacanian psychoanalysis. She has given presentations on her research throughout the United States and Europe. Her book Composing the Modern Subject: Four String Quartets by Dmitri Shostakovich, was published by Ashgate press in 2008. Sarah recently redesigned her junior level Form and Analysis course to incorporate works by women and people of color.
