This interactive workshop is designed to help us look at our music reference collections to ensure that we are presenting what our users most need. The organizers of the session have been working with their reference collections in different ways. One of us has been sending items to storage on a regular basis. Another is shrinking the entire music collection to about 1/3rd of its size before moving to a new music building. With the help of check-out data, date of publication, and date of acquisition, only the most-used items in the collection will be kept on site. The aging reference collection has no check-out data, so other qualitative evaluations will be needed to determine what stays, what moves to the stacks, what to storage, and what is discarded. This session will call on the collective knowledge of the attendees to help shrink parts of the collection.
