Based on information gathered through investigation & interviews with the natives on how the place got its name, Barangay Saosao was once headed by a native leader, Tongcasan, of the Mansaka tribe. Long ago, there was a creek which the people pass every time they brought their farm products to the town-proper of Compostela, which is now part of Nabunturan, submerging their feet in the water when they wade, hence, the name “Saosao” which means submerge in their native language.
There were no known surveyed roads except trails & pathways connecting to adjacent barangays, and the land was covered with thick virgin forests and green lands. Their major products were rice, corn, coffee and also fruit trees like durian, lanzones and bananas. The residents caught fresh water fish with primitive devices like bubog, sanaw and hook and line. Wild animals like deer, wild pigs, monkeys, birds and chicken which roam the forest were caught with bow and arrow, traps and spears (sagpang).
In the early 1922, migrants who came from Luzon and Visayas settled in the place, notable among them were Lorenzo Ignacio, Basilio Buenavista and Antonio Calixtro of Ilocos Province, and Eugenio Refamonte and Hermogenes Geolina from Bohol.
The place was eventually created into a barrio on September 27, 1927. The first appointed Tenyente Del Barrio was Lorenzo Ignacio followed by Hermogenes Geolina, Mauro Araiz, Juan Santonia, Constancio Tambis, Angel Humol, Conde Miguel, Anecito Tito, Fernando Tambis, Adeliano Carajay, Arturo Jr. D. Magno, Elene Tambis and up to the present Barangay Captain Alejandro C. Dugoy.
