In early 1920’s, the Mansaka tribe was the first settlers of Barangay Andili. The barangay was first named “ANDAHILI” or “DAHILI” which means slippery in their native language. This referred to the wide portion of slippery rocks surrounding the barangay.
Before the World War II, Christian people from Visayas region arrived and set off in the barangay. These were the Boholanos, Cebuanos, Leyteños and Ilonggos. Among them were the families of Pedrigosa, Mina, Urbano, Constantino, Dellosa, Omega, Candontol, Bungabong, Gonzaga, Quezon, Rosellas, Lumacad, Abayhon, Orillano, Yongco, Bitoy and Bual. They greatly influenced the mansaka tribe of their culture and ways of living.
The visayan people had changed the name of the barangay into Andili which means “Dili Matarug” or “Cannot be moved” after the flood devastated the area and they could not remove the huge rock that blocked the main road.
In 1935, other settlers and businessmen from different regions and provinces had arrived and lived in the barangay that boosted up its development. One of them was the mining company called Samar Gold Company who helped in the construction of roads.
The Barangay had a favorable climate with vast agriculture lowland and upland endowed with natural resources such as rattan, bamboo and gold ores. The settlers were dependent on their agriculture products such as corn, coffee, cacao, coconut and fruits. Others indulged in manual gold panning as their extra income.
Andili was created into a barrio in 1937 under the municipality of Compostela by virtue of Executive Order No. 351. The first Teniente Del Barrio was Francisco Isquirdo. During the Japanese occupation in the Philippines, the Teniente del Barrio were the following, namely: Raymundo Oracion, Monico Gonzaga, and Constantino Dellosa, Sr. After the Japanese-American war were Zacarias Gonzaga, Dionesio Omega, Wenceslao Quezon, Sr. Eleuterio Kudera and Celerino Candontol, Sr. served as Teniente del Barrio.
