Bib Handling Guidelines
To ensure every runner's timing is accurately recorded and awards are fairly distributed, please follow these important guidelines regarding bib placement and handling.
Handle Your Bib With Care!
Do not fold, bend, or crease the bib, as this can damage the delicate copper wire antenna inside the chip and cause failures in recording your time.
Store the bib flat before the race and secure it evenly using all four corners to prevent stress or movement on the chip.
Handle the bib carefully, treating it like sensitive equipment to ensure accurate and reliable timing.
Why Bib Placement Matters
The timing chips on your bib are vital for recording race times. Improper placement can lead to missed reads and delays in processing results. Here's how to maximize success:
Chest Placement: Secure the bib to the centre of your chest for optimal read accuracy. Avoid attaching it to your back, your leg or sideways, as this can interfere with timing mats.
Visibility: Keep the bib unobstructed (not under a shirt or vest) for clear visibility. We employ video verification as a backup to the timing chips.
Common Causes of Missed Reads
Chip Orientation: Sideways placement on legs results in weak reads due to perpendicular alignment to antenna mats.
Incomplete Crossings: Ensure you fully cross all mats; cutting to the side may prevent your chip from being read.
Bib Legibility: Bright, readable bib designs make video backups faster and more effective. We will print bold, black numbers this year.
Our Robust Timing System
We employ multiple safeguards to minimize errors:
2-3 Readers
4-6 Timing Mats
Video Backup System, synchronized with chip reads. We can review even while still recording. This system is the same one used by the IAAF for international competitions up to and including the Olympic level.
Live results are posted online, within 60 seconds of crossing the finish line. If you notice your time missing, please report to the finish line team immediately for quick resolution.
Tips for Everyone
