Mountain Escapes are delighted to have been asked by Carers Gloucestershire to organise and supply guides for a Snowdon walk on Saturday 25th May 2019 to raise money and awareness for the unpaid carers in the county.
About The Charity
Carers Gloucestershire has been supporting carers for over 25 years. Today, they continue to provide vital services, support and advice for an increasing number of carers when they need it most.
Established in 1992, their mission is to provide practical and emotional support to improve the health and well-being of carers, ensuring they are empowered, supported and valued in their communities.
More information can be found on their website here.
If you cant make the walk, but would still like to donate you can do so through Virgin Money Giving by clicking the below link
Thank you very much for your support.
Rhyd Ddu Path
At 1085m (3565ft) Snowdon is the highest mountain in Wales, and the highest point south of Scotland. Surrounded in history, myths and legends and at around 500 million years old, boasts some of the oldest geology in the world. See where King Arthur was slain and his body cast off to Avalon, hunt for fossils of shellfish right on the summit. Learn of it explosive past and how the mountains of Snowdonia were formed. See the rare alpine plants that cling onto life after being left behind after the last ice age.
We will be offering 2 options to reach the summit. One easier and one more demanding for the more adventurous of you.
The easier option will be the Rhyd Ddu path, a walk of around 7.5 miles with around 900m of ascent. This route is a steady climb to the top with some great views and a little bit of a ridge walk as we near the top.
The other option is the Watkin Path, a walk of around 8.5 miles with 1020m of ascent, said to be one of the most demanding of the 6 main routes, as you start more or less at sea level and have to climb the full height of the mountain, but also said to be the prettiest of the routes up.
We might also consider a 3rd route, Crib Goch, for those of you that are really looking for that adventure and adrenaline rush. Crib Goch is a knife edged ridge with steep drops either side. (see below pic). If people are interested, this would only have a few places available as the guide ratio would only be 1:4. Please only consider this if you are physically fit and have a very good head for heights. (this is only a thought at the moment and will depend on numbers)
There will be a charge per person of £35 (£50 for Crib Goch) there will be no minimum sponsorship amount, each person will receive a fund raising pack, a link to a Virgin Money Giving page, information on what will be supplied and what you will need to bring yourself and hints and tips on how to help you prepare for the day. We can supply you with a list of places to stay if you want to make a weekend of it. Anyone is welcome to join us. If you would like to take part. If you have any questions please email us at email@example.com or message us on Facebook here
We hope to see you all on the day and lets raise a MOUNTAIN of cash for the charity.
