Lee James Principal Guide To Mountain escapes

Hello I am Lee one of the principal guides for Mountain escapes and love nothing more than sharing our outdoor adventures with you. I am based in the Peak District but spend a lot of my outdoor time In wales, The lake district and Scotland.

I have been involved with the outdoors since 2012 and became a fully qualified Summer Mountain guide in 2015.I have been involved with RAW adventures who have helped Action challenge deliver events for the Macmillan Cancer charity mighty hikes series helping 1000`s of walkers to raise funds and achieve their goals in completing the marathon.

RAW have also asked me to help out in some of the mountain events for the Walking with the Wounded charity which saw me working on the Balmoral Estate and the mountains of the Cairngorms in 2017 and again I am pleased to support the event in 2018.

I am involved with delivering the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme working for many different providers and it is something that I really enjoy. Having young people share in the passion of outdoors and seeing it grow is a huge motivator for me

2017 has been a great year for myself to begin work with companies that deliver the Duke of Edinburgh scheme to schools. This has involved the training, the practice before they go on to do their qualifying expedition

In November 2017 I have applied to the National Navigational Award Scheme to be able to teach and deliver the silver and bronze awards and it something I am proud of and I am looking forward to teaching and introducing others to the great outdoors

My walking experience began with the target of completing the Welsh Nuttalls ( hills in Wales over 2000ft). There are 189 welsh nuttalls and i will complete these in 2018. As a peak bagger my aims have begun to extend into the English nuttalls of which there are 256 of these and I am now left with just under 200 of these hills to complete. Wainwrights are another set of peaks that I am walking which I love nothing more than meeting up with some local friends and their working cocker to walk this stunning area. .Always after a challenge you cannot go further wrong than the ultimate in UK walking than becoming a munro bagger. This year I have completed 50 munros from the 282 on the munro list.

My other walking passion are the long distance path walking which I would love to do more. In 2014 we completed the West Highland way 96 miles Glasgow to Fort William in 6 days and in 2016 we completed the Offas dyke path 176 miles from Chepstow to Prestatyn in 13 days.

Not only has my walking taken me to some great UK mountains but I have been fortunate to walk and camp in Northern Norway in the spectacular and beautiful archipelago of the Lofoten Islands. A must for anyone who loves scenery wildlife and photography. I also love to walk and visit the sierra Nevada of southern spain and have been blessed to summit 3 of the 4 3000m mountains of the Sierra nevada.

Karen is new to our team and deals with a lot of the bookings and administration for Mountain Escapes. 2018 has seen Karen register on the MTA to become a fully qualified guide.

Most of my walking has me becoming a peak bagger for the Lake district wainwrights and both the English and Welsh Nuttalls and I am well on the way to with over 250 of the 445 summits reached.

During my walking I have completed 2 long distance walking paths and the sense of completion is one that drives my love of the outdoors.
