Mounir Kaaniche

Short Bio


Mounir Kaaniche received the Engineering and Master degrees in telecommunications from SUP’COM-Tunis in 2006 and 2007, and the PhD degree from Télécom Paris, France, in 2010. From Jan. 2011 to Sept. 2012, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Multimédia team of Laboratoire Traitement et Communication de l'Information (LTCI-Télécom Paris), France. From Oct. 2012 to Aug. 2013, he worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (ATER) with Université Paris-Est Marne-la-Vallée (actually Université Gustave Eiffel), Signal and Communications team, France. 

Since Sept. 2013, he is an Associate Professor at Université Sorbonne Paris Nord (USPN) and member of the Multimedia team of Laboratoire de Traitement et Transport de l'Information (L2TI). He received the “Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches” (HDR) from USPN in Nov. 2018. Since Sept. 2022, he is in delegation Inria at the OPIS group (Inria Saclay), and member of the Center for Visual Computing, CentraleSupélec, France. 

His research interests focus on adaptive wavelets as well as statistical and deep learning models for various 2D and 3D image analysis/processing tasks including compression, classification/retrieval, quality enhancement and quality assessment. He has been an IEEE Senior Member since Sept. 2020.
