Graduate Research Assistant
University of Idaho
I am Moumita Chanda, a Ph.D. student in Computer Science at the University of Idaho, advised by Proffessor Hasan Jamil. My research focuses on Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Image Processing, Large Language Models (LLMs), and Knowledge-Guided Systems to develop intelligent, explainable solutions for agriculture, healthcare, and education.
I have designed and implemented AI-driven systems including:
Tutoring System – an interactive learning platform integrating Python, machine learning, databases, and LLM-based automated grading.
AgriDoctor – an AI-powered agricultural diagnosis tool that analyzes crop and leaf images to provide disease detection, treatment recommendations, and preventive measures.
KnowSpect – a knowledge-guided reasoning platform using ontologies and symbolic AI for accurate, explainable image classification.
My current work is supported by the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), USDA, where I am developing an agricultural landscape management research database and automated information processing systems to advance sustainable farming and resource management in the U.S.
Looking ahead, my goal is to bridge advanced AI with real-world impact by creating knowledge-guided, multimodal systems that:
Empower precision agriculture with intelligent disease detection and yield optimization tools.
Enhance medical image analysis for early disease detection and personalized treatment.
Deliver scalable, explainable AI platforms that can be adopted across industries to improve decision-making, reduce costs, and support sustainability.
University of Idaho, Moscow, Idaho, USA - 2025 - Current
Since August 2024, I have been serving as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Idaho, where I focus on advancing research in artificial intelligence, machine learning, image processing, large language models (LLMs), and knowledge-guided systems. My work involves developing intelligent, explainable, and domain-specific AI solutions—ranging from agricultural diagnosis tools and automated tutoring platforms to ontology-driven image classification systems—through close collaboration with faculty, industry partners, and research organizations.
Department of Computer Science and Engineering, International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) (2023-2024)
From December 2023 to December 2024, I served as a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT). In this role, I taught and mentored undergraduate students in core areas of computer science, including programming, algorithms, and emerging technologies. I actively contributed to curriculum development, fostered an engaging and collaborative learning environment, and guided students in applying theoretical knowledge to practical, real-world projects. This experience strengthened my passion for both teaching and research, and further honed my ability to bridge academic concepts with industry-relevant applications.
