Visualizing Correlated Electronic States in Magical Flat Bands
Strong interactions between electrons in flat electronic bands such as those in Landau levels in high magnetic fields or those created by moire materials gives rise to complex correlated states. The nature of these states, aside from the fact that they are either insulating (correlated or Chern), metallic, or superconducting can not be determined from macroscopic average measurements. I will describe experiments in which direct visualization of these states can be used to determine their nature and contrast experiments with various theoretical proposals.
