from the

Interprovincial Justice Desk

Dear Sisters and Friends,

Welcome to the news as put together from the InterProvincial Justice Desk for March 2020. You are welcome to engage with any of what follows should it be of interest to you. If this is your first time to receive this Update then if you'd like to receive it again then send an email to me at presinterprovjustice@gmail.com and I will make this happen.

I include a link to the Commission for Social Development at the UN where the International Presentation Association was busy at work. I also offer a link to a page I created on Trafficking that I circulated to all who are part of our thematic groups (Human Trafficking). Later this month I will send out an email to all once again relative to our Day of InterProvincial Collaboration to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination 2020 on Saturday 21st March.

We look forward as always to your news and if you have anything that you think might be worth sharing with others we would love to hear from you.

Brian

March 8th is International Women's Day a Day of Significance for all women.

The Commission for Social Development took place from Feb 10th - 19th 2020. Each day I tried to highlight one particular contribution / event in order to offer a sense of the importance of this event. The event this year has as it's theme "Affordable housing and social protection systems for all to address homelessness" and began with a keynote address from Former President of Ireland Mary McAleece and this is my highlighted event of Monday Feb 9th 2020

You can follow the event on twitter by clicking the link below:

Sr. Ann Marie Quinn is attending with Dr. Depoina Afroditi Milaki on behalf of the International Presentation Association.

This is a Lenten Reflection booklet based on SDGs 6: Clean Water & Sanitation, 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, 13: Climate Action, 14: Life with Water, and 15: Life on Land. It was put together by the Claretian Brothers. Feel free to distribute to sisters, associates, and friends of Nano or anyone you feel would appreciate these reflections. Hope for the Future has a COP26 resource guide available on their website. It's a step-by-step guide for churches on holding a 'climate write-in' and arranging to meet an MP - all themed around COP26.

The hope is to get a church in every constituency to contact their MP about what they can do in their Parliamentary capacity to support the success of COP26.

Hands-on support is available for the whole process.

Email rachel.mander@hftf.org.uk to get started with the process of meeting your MP or drafting a letter

CAN YOU GET YOUR CHURCH TO WRITE?

'One Small Change'

An Irish primary school has gone viral after students released a brilliant music video rapping about climate change.

The 23 students, from Cappabue National School, released the rap song and video called 'One Small Change' to encourage others to make little life changes to try and save the planet.

Norma Healy from Cappabue National School in Co Cork joined Dermot & Dave on Today FM on Friday Feb 7th 2020 to fill them in on what it's like to go from being a small primary school to national rap superstars. You can listen to the interview here.

Lenten Reflection Guide 2020

Join us for prayer this Lent!

Click here to download the guide as a PDF.

This year, the Lent Guide from MOGC focuses on the topic of "ecological conversion." Pope Francis defines ecological conversion as occurring when “the effects of [our] encounter with Jesus Christ become evident in [our] relationship with the world around [us]…We come to realize that a healthy relationship with creation is one dimension of overall personal conversion, which entails the recognition of our errors, sins, faults, and failures, and leads to heartfelt repentance and desire to change.”

This Lent, we invite you to reflect on your relationships with God, neighbor, and all creation. We will explore the interconnection of these relationships, consider how they are broken and in need of healing, and reflect on how God calls us to repentance and renewal on the journey towards the joy of Easter.

This was sent to me by Sr. Fatima Rodrigo who is now part of the Leadership Team in India and is no stranger to Ireland and the UN. Have a look at the video she sent me in the hope that there would be a Children's Parliament at the UN this coming September to mark the 75th Anniversary.
