“The whole heart of rural Ireland is gone,” the makers of a one-hour documentary that charts the story of a changing Ireland and our unique relationship with the bog, were told by a midlands publican.
Gan Fód, a new documentary by Midas Productions Tabú, will be shown on Wednesday, February 5, on TG4 at 9:30pm, as part of TG4‘s Wednesdays’ documentary season.

As part of our Presentation work in advancing the cause of the SDGs in the UK we offered what we felt Boris Johnson, the new PM would need to know in respect of the SDGs in his first 100 days in office. I had the privilege of meeting with Fr. Peter McVerry just before Christmas as the Jesuit Centre for Faith and Justice Launch of their Strategic Plan. I reported on it here. I offer the letter above as a wonderful example of lobbying for change. Fr Peter was responding to reports that Departing TD Dara Murphy should explain “why he feels entitled” to keep expenses he claimed in the Dáil while working in Brussels. He subsequently resigned such was the power of the simple but effective letter above.

In 1940, shortly after the world watched the appalling spectacle of Nazi troops goose-stepping down the Champs-Élysées in Paris, a 32-year-old American editor by the name of Varian Fry settled into a small hotel in Marseilles, France.
There he initiated a clandestine operation to rescue some of Europe’s most famous artists, writers, and intellectuals who had fled to France. Among them were many whose names were on the Nazis’ most wanted list. Fry had been sent on his mission by the Emergency Rescue Committee (ERC), which would combine in 1942 with the International Relief Association to form the International Rescue Committee.

A thoughtful article about why at election time we should consider others.
While Ireland faces a number of challenges, including deficits in our public services and infrastructure, unacceptable rates of poverty, and high national debt, it is important to remember that many people in the world face a far worse situation. It is important that Ireland plays an active and effective part in promoting sustainable development in the Global South and that all of Ireland’s policies are consistent with such development. Read Social Justice Ireland's Election Briefing on Global South and ODA for an outline of a number of key challenges and some policy proposals that should be in the next Programme for Government.

The UK’s fashion industry is not cutting waste fast enough to hit its December 2020 target of a 3.5% reduction, the circular economy expert charity, the Waste and Resources Action Plan (WRAP), has admitted. According to a progress report from the WRAP’s ‘Sustainable Clothing Action Plan 2020’ (SCAP 2020) commitment, supply chain waste has only dropped by 1.4% against the 2012 baseline. Although more progress has been made on cutting water use and carbon emissions, the industry is set to miss its waste targets without urgent action.

Through strategic investment, our communities can flourish, with improved public services, greater equality and social justice. Using our influence internationally, Ireland can become a powerful voice for faster and fairer global climate action. More here
The One Future Campaign grew out of conversations between the Stop Climate Chaos Coalition and other civil society umbrella organisations (such as the National Women's Council and USI) and with grassroots climate activists (such as Not Here Not Anywhere and Love Leitrim).
One Future is coordinated by the Stop Climate Chaos Coalition, which is based in the offices of Friends of the Earth.
