If you want long-lasting battery life and the ability to stay aware of your surroundings while working, choose Monster AC317; if you need studio-grade audio accuracy for critical listening and a premium build quality, choose Linsoul Kiwi Ears Altruva.
• Monster AC317: Offers 24 hours of total playback and an open-ear design that keeps you connected to your environment, but lacks wired connectivity or active noise cancellation features.
• Linsoul Kiwi Ears Altruva: Delivers high-fidelity sound with a 50mm dynamic driver and an open-back soundstage for audiophile precision, yet requires a wired connection and offers no wireless freedom.
• The AC317 is ideal for mobile professionals like nurses who need all-day power and situational awareness.
• The Altruva is perfect for home studio work or deep listening sessions where mobility is not a priority.
The Monster AC317 is built around the concept of freedom without isolation. Its open-ear design sits on the outer ear rather than plugging into the canal, which is a game-changer for anyone who needs to hear their surroundings. For a nurse working in a busy hospital corridor, this means you can listen to music or take calls without blocking out the sounds of a pager, a colleague calling out, or emergency alarms. The ergonomic hook design ensures the unit stays secure even during long shifts or when moving quickly between patient rooms. You get the benefit of stereo sound without the discomfort of in-ear pressure that often comes with traditional earbuds after several hours of wear.
Battery anxiety is a real issue for shift workers, and the AC317 addresses this head-on with a 24-hour total playback window. You get seven hours on a single charge from the buds themselves, and the charging case extends that to a full day of use. A quick one-hour charge via the included Type-C cable gets the case back to full power, meaning you rarely have to hunt for a wall outlet during a break. This longevity makes it a reliable companion for triple shifts or long commutes. The Bluetooth 5.4 technology ensures a stable connection up to ten meters away, so you can move freely across a large ward without the audio cutting out or lagging behind video content.

However, this product is not for everyone. If you are looking for deep bass immersion or active noise cancellation to block out the chaotic hum of a coffee shop or construction site, this isn't the tool for you. It relies on passive fit rather than electronic isolation. Additionally, it does not support wired connections, so you cannot plug it directly into a mixer or an older audio interface. It is strictly a wireless experience. If your workflow demands a direct cable connection to avoid any potential latency or interference, you will need to look elsewhere. But for those who prioritize comfort, safety, and all-day battery life, the AC317 is a standout choice.
The Linsoul Kiwi Ears Altruva is engineered for the purist who cares about every nuance of sound reproduction. It is not designed for walking down the street or commuting; it is designed for sitting down and focusing entirely on the audio. The 50mm dynamic driver, featuring custom PU and PEK composite diaphragms with an ultra-pure copper ring, is tuned to replicate a professional studio monitor profile. The bass is punchy and fast without muddying the midrange, while the treble remains clear and transparent with excellent air. This level of detail allows you to hear the subtle reverb of a snare drum or the breath of a vocalist exactly as the artist intended.
The open-back design is central to its identity. By allowing uninterrupted airflow into the headphones, the Altruva creates a wide soundstage that feels almost like being in a live concert hall. There is no sense of "inside the head" audio here; instruments are placed precisely in a three-dimensional space. The build materials—PVD coated steel, wood, and vegan leather—add a tactile premium feel that suggests durability and high-end craftsmanship. For an audio engineer mixing tracks, a podcaster checking vocal tones, or a gamer needing precise directional cues, this headphone provides the accuracy required to make critical decisions. The impedance of 32 ohms and sensitivity of 98 dB ensure it responds well to standard audio sources without needing a massive amplifier, though it performs best with dedicated gear.
That said, the trade-offs are significant for mobile users. The Altruva is a wired-only device with dual 3.5mm jacks, tethering you to your source. There is no Bluetooth, no battery, and no wireless flexibility. Furthermore, because it is open-back, it offers only passive noise cancellation. Sound leaks out easily, and external noise leaks in, making it unsuitable for quiet libraries or noisy public transport. If you need to block out a crying baby or a barking dog while you try to focus, these headphones will not help. They are strictly a stationary experience for environments where you control the acoustics.
• Best for battery life → Monster AC317: With 24 hours of total playtime and rapid Type-C charging, it outlasts the wired Altruva which has zero battery dependency but also zero wireless autonomy.
• Best for situational awareness → Monster AC317: The open-ear design lets you hear the world around you, essential for safety in active environments like hospitals or factories.
• Best for audio fidelity → Linsoul Kiwi Ears Altruva: The 50mm driver and studio-tuned frequency response offer a level of clarity and soundstage width that wireless earbuds simply cannot match.
• Best for portability → Monster AC317: Bluetooth 5.4 and the compact carrying case make it easy to toss in a bag and go anywhere without tangled wires.
• Best for studio monitoring → Linsoul Kiwi Ears Altruva: The open-back architecture and neutral tuning are specifically built for accurate mixing and critical listening tasks.
• Best for call clarity → Monster AC317: Built-in AI noise reduction algorithms specifically target voice clarity during hands-free conversations, whereas the Altruva has no microphone or call features listed.
• Best for build durability → Linsoul Kiwi Ears Altruva: The combination of steel, wood, and vegan leather offers a robust, premium structure compared to the plastic-heavy design of the AC317.
• Best for long-term comfort → Monster AC317: The soft silicone cushion and weight-balanced hook reduce pressure points over long periods, unlike the clamping force of over-ear models.
After weighing the specifications and use cases, I would buy the Monster AC317 for my daily life as a nurse. In a profession where you are constantly on your feet, moving between patients, and needing to remain alert to environmental cues, the open-ear design and all-day battery life are non-negotiable. While the Altruva is undeniably superior for pure sound quality, it ties you to a desk and isolates you from the very reality you are working in. For a nurse, hearing the room is just as important as hearing the music. Therefore, for hi-res headband headphones for nurses or the best active noise cancelling headband headphones for nurses (though the AC317 uses passive awareness), the Monster AC317 is the logical, practical winner. It solves the specific problems of mobility and safety that define the job, whereas the Altruva solves a problem most nurses don't have: the need for a stationary listening station.
Yes, the Monster AC317 is explicitly designed with an open-ear shape that leaves the ear canal unobstructed, allowing you to hear alarms and colleagues clearly while listening to audio.
While they have an impedance of 32 ohms and do not strictly require a high-power amp, they are optimized for high-fidelity sources to fully realize their open-back soundstage capabilities.
The buds provide 7 hours of continuous playback on a single charge, and the included charging case extends the total listening time to 24 hours.
No, the Altruva is a wired-only headphone with dual 3.5mm jacks and does not include Bluetooth or internal battery components for wireless operation.
