Monomoy WritesIntroductionOn December 17th, 2023, Monomoy Writes, a groundbreaking platform designed to showcase the immense talent of student authors at Monomoy Regional High School, was officially launched. Reflecting on its impact over the past year, it is clear that this initiative has been a resounding success. The fusion of The Bite and Sandscript has created an unparalleled space where diverse voices converge, offering readers an eclectic mix of informative articles, compelling reviews, thought-provoking stories, and heartfelt poetry. Whether accessed from the comfort of one’s home, a cozy café, or even the school library (during appropriate times, of course), Writes has become a staple of our community.
One Year InFor students, this platform has been transformative, providing an outlet to share their ideas and talents with a broader audience. For teachers, it has deepened connections with students, offering insights into their creativity and perspectives. Parents and guardians have found joy and pride in witnessing their children’s work showcased, gaining a window into the vibrant Monomoy life and the issues that matter most to our youth.
This success is owed to the harmonious collaboration between two clubs: the journalistic powerhouse, The Bite, and the creative haven, Sandscript. Led by English teacher Meghan Peterson, our newspaper half has continued to thrive under the guidance of its co-editors, Jason Elhilow and Hillevi Segerson, meeting on Day 4 during Jawsome B to facilitate a hub for dynamic journalistic endeavors. Meanwhile, Sandscript, helmed by English and creative writing teacher Lisa Forte-Doyle, with Jason Elhilow now serving as its dedicated president, has flourished as a beacon for artistic expression. The synergy between these groups, which existed long before our inception, has only strengthened, proving that this union was both natural and necessary.
ConclusionOver the past year, Monomoy Writes has accomplished its mission of celebrating MRHS’s finest authors, shining a spotlight on their work in ways previously unimaginable. It has fostered a community of creativity and innovation, inspiring students to push their boundaries and explore new horizons. As we move forward, we remain committed to amplifying these voices and encouraging the next generation of writers to share their stories.
