Monomoy Writes
IntroductionWelcome back to school, Monomoy! For grades 1-12, school starts today, and especially here at Writes, we couldn't be more excited. At MRHS, the Class Of 2025 has finally risen to the highest echelon of the school, while the Class Of 2029 makes its debut, and with '28, '27, and '26, more students have joined our community than ever. But let's get to the "important" stuff: What exactly is Monomoy Writes? Launched on December 17, 2023, we are a joint-run website for MRHS's newspaper (The Bite) and creative writing (Sandscript) clubs to host all of their student works. Whether you're looking for informative articles, entertaining reviews, striking stories, or personal poems, Writes has something for everyone. What To ExpectFor the 2024-2025 school year, our advisors are English teachers Meghan Peterson (The Bite) and Lisa Forte-Doyle (Sandscript), with senior Jason Elhilow taking on the roles of Writes manager, Sandscript president, and, alongside senior Hillevi Segerson, as co-editor of The Bite. But what else is there to expect? Both clubs already have many fantastic members, but there is ALWAYS room for more, so definitely expect to see our name going around, trying to not just get you to join us (though you certainly can), but also trying to encourage and foster the art of writing in MRHS and beyond. There will also be more consistent editions released on Writes, with our first tentatively coming out in October, and our last in May 2025. This will deliver eight fantastic editions, with pieces from both our journalistic and creative halves, giving students, teachers, parents, and so many others the ability to read the remarkable work of young writers at MRHS. Expanding our social media presence is also critical for this year, so an Instagram for Monomoy Writes was launched just a few days ago. There, any updates to our site, its clubs, or, of course, the newest editions to Writes, will be posted, allowing instant access to the newest information. Follow us @monomoywrites. ConclusionThere is still so much to plan for, so much to talk about, so much to be excited about for this school year. When it comes to Writes, more information will come in October, as we talk things over and our respective clubs get together once again. Have a great first day, Monomoy!
