#MonashCutsWatch was a campaign run in Semester 2 , 2020 of the damage the universities did to staff during the COVID pandemic.

The ABC and Australian Financial Review reported that 477 casual staff at Monash lost work when COVID first hit

Professional, support and facilities services

  • 55+ library staff cut, including Learning Skills Advisors

  • Reduced staffing in eSolutions

  • Outsourced cleaning staff stood down

Teaching

General reports of less availability of teaching staff to students.

Many units are only running tutorials every second week.

Art Design and Architecture

Reduced number of tutors and increase in student:teacher ratio

  • Indigenous Studies - casuals cut for first year units, permanent staff taking on more teaching duties

  • Film Studies - casual and fixed term contracts not being renewed

  • ATS1304 Intro to Television Studies - tutorials cut to every other week

  • ATS3171 Medieval philosophy: Jews, Christians and Muslims on Plato and Aristotle CUT

  • ATS2907 Modern Islam CUT

  • ATS2380 Australia: Migrant Nation CUT

  • ATS3890 Egypt's Golden Age - tutorials cut and replaced with Moodle forum

Engineering

ECE4044, ECE4045 - Demonstrators cut
