Pregnancy is never exactly the same twice. With my second child, I walked a path that was both familiar and completely new. From morning sickness and moving houses to labor and recovery, here’s my honest story of bringing baby #2 into the world.
On February 8, 2021, I took a pregnancy test and found out I was expecting again. Just like with my first child, I wasn’t even late when I got that positive test—I just knew something felt different.
I stayed with the same prenatal brand, Rainbow Light, but switched to their mini tablets after struggling with the larger pills. They were much easier to take, and I also added Rainbow Light Prenatal DHA for extra support
The first trimester is always tough, but thankfully this time was not as severe as my first pregnancy (when I was hospitalized with hyperemesis gravidarum).
To cope, I tried:
Staying hydrated
B-Natal pops
Rest and baths
Gingerbread cake (my personal nausea remedy!)
My doctor also recommended vitamin B6, small meals throughout the day, and ginger products. I learned the hard way that sugary ginger ale later caused me to fail my glucose test.
Adding to the challenge, we moved houses during this trimester. Between morning sickness, exhaustion, and caring for a toddler, it wasn’t easy—but having a moving plan helped me push through
By the second trimester, my energy returned. I even found myself sealing our patio deck and cleaning out our new pool!
On May 2, 2021, we hosted a gender reveal party at our new home and learned we were having another boy. That moment filled our hearts with joy and excitement
As the final weeks approached, I faced some constipation struggles but nothing like before. I also made the most of baby registries and freebies, carefully tracking them with lists to stay organized and make sure every “thank you” was sent.
Living closer to family made a huge difference—I had extra support for doctor visits and someone to help with my toddler when needed
On September 29, 2021, at my scheduled OBGYN appointment, I was already 4 cm dilated with a bulging water sack. It was time to head to the hospital.
Labor lasted over 24 hours, longer than with my first. I managed contractions with breathing, movement, and support from my husband and an incredible nurse. Finally, on September 30, 2021, at 2:20 p.m., my baby boy was born weighing 5 lbs 13 oz.
Holding him skin-to-skin and saying “hello” was pure magic. Our family felt complete
Returning home was harder than I expected. Within a week, I suffered a postpartum hemorrhage and needed an emergency D&C. Thanks to quick medical care and family support, I recovered after a three-day hospital stay.
Later, my newborn developed an inguinal hernia and required surgery at just 5 weeks old. It was a scary time, but the surgery was successful, and he healed beautifully
This pregnancy taught me resilience. From moving while pregnant, to managing labor, to facing postpartum complications, I realized how vital family and support systems are.
Pregnancy and life are hard—but when surrounded by love, every challenge becomes worth it. And at the end of it all, I held my second beautiful baby boy in my arms.
