A new book from our team of authors!
Environmental protection issues are now topping the agenda of all global regulatory bodies. The International Maritime Organization is no exception. It's now clear to everyone that global climate change is not an imaginary problem, but a reality of today and a huge challenge for the not-too-distant future. The problem is becoming global in scope, and its solution is only possible through the joint efforts of all specialists involved in one way or another with potential sources of harmful emissions and greenhouse gases, including the shipping industry.
Like any problem, its solution requires developing an understanding of its causes and consequences of future marine engineers, and this development should begin in their student years. Even during the training of maritime specialists, they must develop not just specific competencies, but a comprehensive environmental worldview. Every marine engineer should view environmental protection measures and activities not simply as arbitrary conventions, but as a conscious commitment to preserving the environment for the sake of future generations, to whom we must pass this planet on.
We believe there is an urgent need for all maritime educational institutions training marine engineers to introduce separate courses aimed at fostering an environmental mindset. Such courses should be mandatory in the retraining and advanced training programs of marine specialists already working in the modern navy. Only by making environmental protection a personal choice will we be able to achieve results and preserve the planet for future generations.
For those who share or are prepared to agree with this position, our team of authors has prepared a book entitled "Marine Internal Combustion Engines and Environmental Protection Issues" which is a logical continuation of our textbook "Internal Combustion Engines of Modern Marine Vessels."
This book is currently being prepared for publication. In the meantime, you can read its contents by following the active link associated with the title.
We will announce the book's release separately. Sincerely, the authors.
Textbook for higher maritime educational institutions
We have put our more than 20 years of experience in training marine engineer officers into practice by writing a textbook for maritime educational institutions that meets the requirements of STCW and IMO model courses (7.02 and 7.04) to the best of our ability. The textbook is illustrated with more than 500 high-quality black-and-white and color drawings that fully facilitate the assimilation of the material. More than 90% of the graphics are in vector format, which allows you to view the image in greater detail in the electronic version of the book. In addition, this book will be useful for existing engineers, as well as for teachers conducting advanced training courses. Along with theoretical material, the book provides information about the history of creative research, scientists and engineers, through whose efforts modern marine internal combustion engines have become the most efficient prime movers available to mankind. At the end of the book, there is brief bibliographic information about the people who made the most significant contribution to the formation and development of the industry.
This book offers a comprehensive and timely overview of internal combustion engines for use in marine environments. It reviews the development of modern four-stroke marine engines, gas and gas–diesel engines and low-speed two-stroke crosshead engines, describing their application areas and providing readers with a useful snapshot of their technical features, e.g. their dimensions, weights, cylinder arrangements, cylinder capabilities, rotation speeds, and exhaust gas temperatures. For each marine engine, information is provided on the manufacturer, historical background, development and technical characteristics of the manufacturer’s most popular models, and detailed drawings of the engine, depicting its main design features.
This book offers a unique, self-contained reference guide for engineers and professionals involved in shipbuilding. At the same time, it is intended to support students at maritime academies and university students in naval architecture/marine engineering with their design projects at both master and graduate levels, thus filling an important gap in the literature.
