Regular dusting will keep modern dining table furniture relatively clean however there are different kinds of furniture that require specialized care. One kind of furniture which requires special care is iron furniture.
To keep it clean and well maintained be sure the furniture has been properly sealed by the manufacturer. To clean an iron piece without removing the seal, wipe it with a damp cloth or mild solution of dishwashing liquid and warm water. Then spray any moving parts with WD-40. Be careful not to get the WD-40 on any other areas of the furniture. Be sure to check with the manufacturer on how to remove stains and scratches since these will likely require professional attention. You can remove rust stains immediately by using a wire brush and applying touch-up paint. You can obtain this paint from the manufacturer. If the furniture is kept outdoors, its a good idea the furniture be stored indoors during the winter months.
For lacquered furniture, dust it as needed. It can be cleaned by using a sponge dipped in warm soapy water. Be sure to rinse it and dry with a soft cloth. If the lacquer is peeling, the piece will require stripping and re-lacquering. Stripping generally involves using a powered sander to remove the old laquer. Then, a fresh coat is applied to make it look like new. While the laquer is removed, you also have the option of re-staining the wood if your taste in color has changed.
To clean and care for dining table and chairs, scrub it with detergent and water, using a damp sponge. Dry it with a soft cloth. You should have redwood sealed occasionally to prevent cracking and keep out moisture. In the winter months its best to cover the furniture if its kept outdoors or bring the furniture indoors.
For suede furniture, gently brush with a soft brush or a textured cloth such as a towel, to remove dirt. Vacuum with the attachment tool in the crevices where dirt can be trapped. To remove a greasy stain, rub it with ground oatmeal, then brush it off and vacuum up the excess. Brush the furniture with a terry cloth towel to raise the nap on the suede. If the nap has been flattened by spills, you will need to hire a professional leather refinisher in order to restore it.
Teak furniture should be dusted regularly and cleaned with a mild detergent. Oil teak furniture every 2 or 3 years if its kept indoors and every year if the furniture is kept outdoors. Do so by rubbing the oil on with a soft cloth and leaving it on overnight. Then buff it with a soft cloth to remove any excess oil.
