LED: LIGHT EVOKING DREAMS | OCTOBER 23 – 28, 2025
LED: Light Evoking Dreams - 100 Years of Surrealism
MoCA L.I.ghts VI will transform the Village of Patchogue into a luminous dreamscape—where time bends, objects breathe, and the imagination reigns.
In celebration of the 100th anniversary of Surrealism MoCA L.I.ghts 2025 will include works inspired by dreams, the unconscious, and the surreal.
What began as a way for the public to engage with art and their community safely during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, MoCA L.I.ghts is now in its 6th year and still growing. MoCA L.I.ghts is a 6-day long installation of projected artworks, animations, and site-specific media works on building facades and pop-up galleries that transform Downtown Patchogue into an immersive, open-air museum for visitors to experience at no cost. The festival features visual art, live music, and performance art of local, national, and international artists of varying career levels along with on-site educational experiences and virtual workshops for those interested in trying their hand at the presented art forms. Given the uniqueness of such an event, MoCA L.I.ghts welcomes viewers of all ages from all across Long Island and beyond for a truly one-of-a-kind arts experience!
This year's theme for the festival is MoCA L.I.ghts LED: Light Evoking Dreams, celebrating the 100th anniversary of Surrealism. Featured works will explore surrealist themes like dreams, fantasies, imaginations, and more – making for the most luminous and innovative year yet.
Patchogue Arts Council's Executive Director, Beth Giacummo, says, "Marking 100 years of Surrealism, MoCA L.I.ghts invites the community at large to dream with eyes open – we will be transforming familiar streets into illuminated visions that spark connection and create an arts experience that is exciting for all ages."
New this year we welcome a cultural partnership with MTA Arts & Design. MoCA L.I.ghts will include the The Gilded Passage by artist Jonathan Monaghan, originally commissioned by MTA Art & Design for Grand Central Madison LIRR terminal in New York City. The work will travel to the Village of Patchogue and be projected on the Patchogue-Medford Library's front-facing facade on Main Street. MTA Arts & Design encourages the use of public transportation by providing visual and performing arts in the metropolitan New York area. The program creates meaningful connections between stations, neighborhoods, and their diverse ridership through a broad spectrum of artistic activity, including permanent art, posters, photography, digital art, live musical performances, and the Poetry in Motion program. Their permanent art program is one of the largest and most diverse collections of site-specific contemporary public art in the world, with more than 400 works by a diverse range of artists. This partnership with Patchogue Arts council comes at an exciting time as MTA Arts & Design is celebrating it's 40th anniversary. Patchogue Arts Council looks forward to 2025 and its future curatorial collaboration together.
Additionally, every year Patchogue Arts Council designates a MoCA L.I.ghts Glow Marshall to celebrate someone who has made a meaningful impact on its organization as well as the festival itself. This year, Patchogue Arts Council is extraordinarily proud to announce David Kennedy as MoCA L.I.ghts 2025 Glow Marshall. As the current Executive Director of the Patchogue Business Improvement Distract and the former Executive Director of the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce, David has been a champion of MoCA L.I.ghts since its inception and has made great strides as a community leader to help this event become what it is today. A partner in planning, fundraising, and execution, David has always had a deep understanding of the vital role that the arts play in the community, people's lives, the local economy, and the overall revitalization of Patchogue Village. Patchogue Arts Council is forever indebted to such a staunch supporter as David.
“What an honor to be selected as this year's Glow Marshall for MoCA LIghts 2025! I am proud to have witnessed the creation of MoCA LIghts from the beginning, so to play this role with MoCA Lights now established as one of Patchogue’s premier attractions is truly heartwarming. The Patchogue Arts Council is an essential part of what makes Patchogue a special community, so to be recognized by them in this way is literally electric. I also want to shout out PAC Executive Director and MoCA Lights creator Beth Giacummo who provides so much beauty & positive energy to Patchogue. MoCA Lights is the perfect reflection of who she is and I am grateful I have had opportunities to partner with her in many events and activities. Please join me as we turn the power on and light up Patchogue with Art & Energy at this year’s MoCA LIghts,” says David Kennedy
Patchogue Arts Council is also thrilled to announce that this year, MoCA L.I.ghts has officially joined the selective list of prestigious events around the world that are featured in the International Light Festivals Organisation (ILO). This distinguished organization acts as a network for public light festivals, events, experts with the purpose of sharing expertise, inspiration, and information on an international level. The inclusion of MoCA L.I.ghts in this organizations opens the doors for participating artists to co-create, research, and communicate with others working in similar media around the globe.
