Cities around the world are becoming smart cities in recent years – thanks to significant advancements in existing mobile wireless networks, particularly 4G/LTE and 5G technologies – which proved to be the stepping stone for the success of businesses, industries and residents of smart cities. However, there is a long way to go. On contrary to previous generation mobile wireless networks, Beyond 5G and 6G is expected to undergo major transformation and revolutionize wireless evolution to support much more stringent quality of service (QoS) provisioning, such as, ultra low-latency (<1 ms), ultra-high data rates (> 1 TB/s), super- high reliability (> 99.99999% ) etc, very high spectrum bands (0.1 − 10 THz) etc. These emerging multi-dimensional QoS requirements stem from the exponential data traffic growth due to massive Internet of things, autonomous transportation, unmanned aeronautical systems, tele-health, high-definition holographic videos, AR/VR applications among many others, which are unique to smart cities. As a consequence, many of the services offered by cities, such as, autonomous transportation, buildings, schooling, 1agriculture and energy management, are becoming increasingly smart bringing in automation with Artificial Intelligence (AI), and secure using novel blockchain technologies. Thus, in this session, we focus on how advanced AI and novel decentralized blockchain technologies can transform smart cities with Beyond 5G and 6G mobile wireless networks – to realizing the true vision of smart cities by solving some of the core challenges, that includes, stringent QoS requirements, automation, privacy and security etc.
The aim of this workshop is to bring together practitioners and researchers from both academia and industry in order to have a forum for discussion and technical presentations on the recent advances in theories, architectures, protocols, and techniques that tackle challenges of smart cities with a focus on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain technologies for smart cities with Beyond 5G and 6G mobile wireless networks. Authors are invited to submit previously unpublished papers to this session.
