I am an Associate Professor in the School of Economics at the University of Hyderabad. As an economist specializing in demography and health economics, my research examines the intersections of population dynamics, public health metrics, and development policy, with a particular focus on marginalized and indigenous communities.
My research program primarily utilizes large-scale micro-data—including successive rounds of the National Family Health Survey (NFHS)—to analyze socio-economic inequalities in health outcomes, childhood malnutrition, and reproductive health. A significant component of my work investigates the behavioral and structural determinants governing healthcare utilization, specifically the demand-supply dynamics, cultural preferences, and choice frameworks between traditional medicine and modern healthcare systems in Northeast India.
Prior to my appointment at the University of Hyderabad, I served as an Assistant Professor in the Postgraduate Department of Population Studies at Fakir Mohan University, Odisha. I hold a Master of Arts in Economics from Mumbai University, alongside a Master in Population Studies, M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Population Studies from the International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai. My research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and my work has been recognized with the Prof. K. Srinivasan Award by the Indian Association for the Study of Population (IASP).
