Mo Andres [they/them] is a teaching & performing artist whose transdisciplinary work focuses on an ethic of love and care - a life-sized collage of metaphors and modalities for healing.
As a musician, they write and sing alternative folk songs, largely inspired by their roots in the foothills of the blue ridge mountains, and, of course, their journey in love and grief. Their durational solo project & recent EP highway hypnosis tells the beginning of a story - it's a snapshot of interstate 81, which runs from their hometown of Toccoa, Georgia, to their current base of Middletown, Connecticut: the journey home, whatever that may be.
As a theatermaker, Mo emphasizes process over performance, exploring themes of grief, healing, and community care through ensemble-based, generative work. They lead with a trauma-informed, educative approach for participants of all ages, leading with the core vision that performing arts can be healing and transformative for everyone. Mo's modalities of immersive theater and musicality in storytelling create a unique landscape of performance work in sound design/composition, directing, and on the rare occasion, acting.
Mo recently earned their B.A. from Wesleyan University with High Honors in Theater and a minor in Education Studies. Their senior thesis, entitled How Do We Talk About It? manifested as an exploration in destigmatizing community discussions on suicide through the educative practice of immersive & durational theater.
Beyond performance, you might find Mo dancing in a random field somewhere, just to dance, to feel.
Much like the highway, Mo is always under construction.
