About the Artist
Mel Ortiz Alvarez de la Campa is a Puerto Rican, queer, scientist, writer and artist. They graduated from the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras with a B.S. in Integrative Biology and a minor in Medical Humanities in 2021. Currently, they are a Pathobiology PhD candidate and NSF GRFP fellow at Brown University.
In their free time, Mel is the co-founder of Ciencia Pa' Todes, a Spanish-language science communication initiative based in the Caribbean. Their dream is to use their passion for writing and drawing in order to create a long lasting impact on the lives of others and revolutionize the way we contextualize science.
