[PhD and Masters in Machine Learning or Computer Vision]

We are seeking highly motivated candidates to apply for our PhD and Masters programs in Machine Learning or Computer Vision. These programs are offered by either the Department of Electronic Engineering or the Graduate School of Artificial Intelligence at POSTECH.

If you are considering joining our group, kindly assess if you meet the following four requirements:

Mathematical maturity: Mathematics is the language of AI. You should have a strong background in linear algebra, probability theory & statistics, and vector calculus at the undergraduate engineering level (e.g., EE and CSE). If you work on more theoretically oriented problems, you should be ready to learn more advanced techniques and tools such as optimization, and real and functional analysis.

Programming skills: You should have experience in programming, particularly in Python, which is one of the main programming languages in machine learning. Knowledge of other programming languages and environments, such as C and C++, is also useful. As a beginning graduate student, you don’t have to be an expert in programming, but you should be able to acquire skills quickly.

Communication skills: Conducting research is about discovering new insights and effectively communicating them to others. Therefore, it is essential that you possess the ability to read and analyze academic work, formally present your findings and ideas, and engage in discussions with your fellow students and supervisors. Additionally, since a significant portion of scientific work is conducted in English, proficiency in English is necessary. While you do not have to be an expert in English at the beginning of your graduate studies, you should strive to improve your proficiency in the language over time.

Background in machine learning and/or computer vision: You should have a fundamental understanding of machine learning or computer vision at the undergraduate level. Having conducted undergraduate research or development projects in these fields is beneficial, but it is not mandatory.

If you possess the above-mentioned skills and background and are interested in joining our team, please email Dr. Kwang In Kim at kimkin (at) postech.ac.kr and attach a copy of your undergraduate academic transcripts. Please include either `[PhD]’ or `[Masters]’ in the subject line of your email, depending on the program you are applying for.
