MITEX goal
Developing conservation actions and management strategies for
mitigating socio-ecological impacts of glacier extinction.
We aim at maximizing people–nature co-benefits by supporting biodiversity and
increasing ecosystem services and health for sustainable food production and human welfare.

Predicting the impact of glacier extinction on biodiversity and ecosystem services

Understanding the impact of livestock grazing, woody encroachment and plant recruitment on biodiversity and ecosystem services

Developing conservation actions and ecosystem management strategies for mitigating socio-ecological impacts of glacier extinction
Our plan is to move beyond the classic description of biodiversity patterns to develop a better understanding of how to halt biodiversity loss in glacial ecosystems through conservation actions.
We focus on habitat structure, species interactions and ecosystem services, but also on an informed use of these novel ecosystems for human activities and welfare.
We will provide evidence-based recommendations to support decision-making process that determines policy options and management measures. Action plans will be discussed with different stakeholders and co-designed with local communities via participatory science.
