A Responsive Service With A Focus On
Conflict Resolution
The start of a new school year is an exciting time for students, full of hope and the expectation of great accomplishments! The beginning of school can also bring certain levels of stress and/or irritation for some students who are getting to know new people with different personalities, uncommon interests, and from various backgrounds. MCMS experienced higher levels of office visits that stem from minor disagreements and/or negative social interactions resulting in major disruptions in classrooms and in the hallway during passing periods. In response, the counseling team implemented restorative circles to combat the increased levels of aggression. During the restorative circles, counselors guide students to calmly listen, clearly communicate their thoughts, openly express their concerns, and discuss ways to resolve the issue at hand in a respectful manner. By modeling positive conflict resolutions skills and strategies, MCMS began to see a reduction in the number and frequency of disruptions.

Community Partner Collaboration
MCMS Counselors work together to collaborate with our community partner City Rise Missouri City Community Ministries. We work to improve student outcomes through the facilitation of school-family-community partnerships. School-family-community partnerships have helped our students improve academically and socially. In fostering partnerships, we worked with our National Junior Honor Society members to serve as volunteers at City Rise - Missouri City's Mistletoe Warehouse. At this event, students served their community by setting up and manning the gift/clothing tables, wrapping presents, watching children while their parents shop, and assisting shoppers with carrying items to their car. They did a marvelous job of serving the community well and exhibiting Cougar Pride.
