The missions of the apostles began shortly after the ascension of Jesus Christ, as described in the Gospels and in the Acts of the Apostles in the New Testament of the Bible. After receiving the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, the apostles, led by Peter and Paul, began to spread the Gospel in Jerusalem and the surrounding regions.

The Great Commission of the apostles is a fundamental mandate in Christianity. Found in the Gospels—especially in Matthew 28:16–20, Mark 16:15–18, and Luke 24:44–49—this teaching is attributed to Jesus Christ. He instructed His disciples to spread the gospel, make disciples of all nations, baptize them, and teach them everything He had commanded.
This mission transcends borders and cultures, calling Christ’s followers to share His message of love, forgiveness, and redemption with the entire world. The Great Commission is seen as a sacred responsibility for all Christians and has been the driving force behind missionary work throughout the centuries. It inspires individuals and organizations to engage in missionary activities such as evangelism, humanitarian aid, church planting, and education.
The essence of the Great Commission is to bring the light of the gospel to places where it has not yet been heard, transforming lives and communities through the power of Christ’s love.
