Six Smart Ways to Keep Your Home Sparkly Clean

Perhaps one of the most annoying things you must know about #Adulting is how to keep your home sparkly clean.

Sure, it seems so simple and easy to do. But after settling in your house, you quickly see that it's really, really not. It requires a ton of effort and time, especially if you don't do it the right way.

We're going to give you six smart ways to keep your home sparkly clean. Direct from the pros, we give you some good life hacks and how-to for the homebody!

  • Keep Your Home Sparkly Clean Life Hack # 1 - Schedule!

First step - make your cleaning schedule. How do you do that?

Do you need to sweep, mop, or vacuum the floors? Do you need to scrub and wipe down the baseboards, tiles or walls? Do you need to dust and scrub flat surfaces? Do you do your own laundry?

First, you'll have to decide how often you need to clean each room, and how often to do the specific cleaning duties for them. Afterwards, you'll need to decide how you wish to go about cleaning your home.

  • Keep Your Home Sparkly Clean Life Hack # 2 - Declutter

There are several things you have to do in emergency visits (like friends dropping in last-minute). After all, who wants their friends to come by and see such a cluttered house?

That's a very good reason, yes. But more so, it will be good for your mental health and mindset, especially if you work from home.

Keep your clutter in one basket, box or container in the room. Whatever doesn't go in that room - papers or random trinkets - store it in one place.

That said, make it a point to wipe down your surfaces and sweep your floors every other day. In fact, if you can, make it an everyday routine.

  • Keep Your Home Sparkly Clean Life Hack # 3 - Kitchen

If you have a dishwasher already, work it to your full advantage.

Rinse your range hood filters, light fixture covers, indoor shoes and slippers, caps, even your computer keyboards!

Make sure to keep your plates out of the sink and in the racks, or at least in the dishwasher. Keep your dishwasher regularly unloaded so you always have a spotless sink and vacant washer ready for the next bunch of dirty dishes.

Wipe down anything you use after you cook so the food debris don't stick. Rice cooker, stove, oven or microwave - scrub it down!

Most importantly - and we can not stress this enough - Keep. Your. Sink. Clean!

  • Keep Your Home Sparkly Clean Life Hack # 4 - Bathroom

One main tip to keep your bathroom tidy is to clean as you go. Yes, we mean it.

Rinse the sink and wipe down the counter after you brush your teeth. Give the walls, mirror, and even the toilet a good wipe down every time you shower. If you have a soap dispenser, make sure to clean it at least every week to stop mold and bacteria build up.

You'll not just keep your bathroom clean, you'll always have it ready to use without much trouble.

Know which areas of your bathroom have stubborn stains that won't come off with soap. Then, get some white vinegar to soak them in.

Do that for your toilet, shower, your sink, even your drainages. For your shower head, put a decent amount of vinegar in a plastic bag and tie it there.

If you have a bathtub, utilize it to clean bigger items in your home.

After, make sure to scrub down your bathtub with vinegar and soap. This will make it easier for you to clean it on your regular bathroom cleanup.

  • Keep Your Home Sparkly Clean Life Hack # 4 - Clean Sheets

Make your pillows and towels feel brand new again with this clever trick!

Use vinegar and baking soda to restore your towels before washing them with detergent and fabric conditioner.

For your stained, yellow pillows, use this excellent formula by Jill on One Good Thing by Jillee. With a blend of detergent, dishwashing powder, bleach and borax, your pillows will go back to their white, fluffy glory in just one wash!

One of the few things that keep your home feeling refreshed and clean is a set of linens straight out of the washing machine.

  • Keep Your Home Sparkly Clean Life Hack # 5 - Pets

Have pets at home? Frustrated at the endless hair fall that you can't seem to get rid of? Well, no more!

Get a pair of rubber gloves from your stock of cleaning products. Don't have an extra pair? No worries! An old pair of rubber flip flops will do the trick.

Run them over your floors and flat surfaces to get all the fur. You'll get to grab all the pesky pet hair without a hitch!

  • Keep Your Home Sparkly Clean Life Hack # 6 - Get Help!

Lastly - if you don't live alone, get some help from your housemates! Whether it's your sibling, spouse, or your little ones, we're sure there are ways to have them help you out.

Be sure to be patient when you teach them how to do basic chores. And like all else, start with teaching them how to pick up after themselves.

Remember, they're still kids. They're going to need you to help them figure out what they're doing and how they're supposed to do it.
