The 1st element to Digital Citizenship is Digital Access. According to Digital Citizen, Digital Access is about the equitable distribution of technology and online resources. Teachers and administrators need to be aware of their community and who may or may not have access, not only in school but at home as well. Educators need to provide options for lessons and data collection such as free access in the community or providing resources for the home.
Digital Access is knowing what technology is available to students in school and at home. Based on this knowledge, teachers can effectively offer lesson variation to their students.
As a teacher, it is important to know what students do and do not have access to. This includes knowing if a student has access to the internet, a computer, a tablet, or a phone. If students do not have internet access or computer access, how far is the nearest library for them to complete their work? Will their parents be able to accompany them? If not, can their work be printed and given to them to complete? These are questions and scenarios that educators must consider when looking at Digital Access.
