"That's two worlds that should never have touched."
In the early 18th Century, Peregrine is born into the Osborne family, one of the richest and most powerful families in England - the Dukes of Leeds. Raised on the continent, his only friend is his elder brother, William.
When William dies of smallpox while returning from their Grand Tour of Europe, young Peregrine is stricken with grief. He is also catapulted into the spotlight. His grandfather, the current Duke of Leeds, tells him he will eventually become the 3rd Duke and must secure the family's future. A role he is ill equipped to perform and a life he cannot face.
Overwhelmed, he seeks refuge and seclusion by spending Christmas at his childhood home - Kiveton Hall in Yorkshire.
His recovery begins unexpectedly when he meets Elizabeth, the daughter of the local blacksmith. Although they are from different worlds, he discovers that she is a like-minded soul. He longs to immerse himself in her simple, rural existence - a life his family can never allow him to have.
The Blacksmith's Daughter combines real people, locations and events to tell a story of the fragility of happiness.
