Volunteers from colleges and the community are a critical ingredient to the success of these events. Sign up to volunteer for College Knowledge Month activities and/or to help students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
When you complete the registration form, please select the region(s) in which you are willing to travel. Specify your expertise and level(s) of assistance.
College Knowledge Month Events: During October, high schools host college exploration activities and dedicate time and space for seniors to complete college applications. Many Minnesota postsecondary institutions waive application fees during this time to remove a barrier for some students who might not otherwise submit an application. FAFSA Completion Events: From October through May, these events help students and families with the next step in the process: completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). FAFSA completion events are hosted by high schools, postsecondary institutions and community organizations. FAFSA sites requesting volunteers for events October through May.
Potential Volunteer Needs
Volunteers can lend their individual expertise and are needed in a variety of ways, depending on the needs of the high school or event. Here are some examples:
- Greet and sign-in students.
- Assist students with the completion of college applications.
- Assist students and/or parents with completion of the FAFSA.
- Present to student or parent groups about a topic within your area of expertise (financial aid, diversity, college preparation, essay writing, etc.).
- Share information about the college application process or personal stories about your college journey.
Site coordinators are encouraged to contact volunteers in their region on a first-come, first-served basis to confirm availability and schedule volunteers for their event(s). For this reason, registering to volunteer does not guarantee that you will end up volunteering at a specific site, or at all.
Please do not use these events to recruit for a specific postsecondary institution.
Thank you for your consideration!
