I did move my files (I moved the folder containing all the emulator data) before even downloading the rom.

It doesn't occur with other games

I tried downloading a different ROM and it's still the same problem

Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games may be on their way to the Nintendo Switch after emulators for both GBA and Game Boy/Color were leaked from a Switch development kit. The emulators appear to be officially developed by Nintendo and came with a lengthy list of games that had already been tested.

The emulators were leaked on 4Chan after four files, two for each emulator, were dumped on the website. The GBA emulator currently appears to be codenamed Sloop while the Game Boy emulator is called Hiyoko. Both seem to be signed off by Nintendo Europe Research & Development, which is the team previously responsible for creating the DS and Wii emulators for the Wii U, as well as those used in the NES and SNES Classic Editions. Players are hoping this is a sign the rumored emulators could be added to Nintendo Switch Online soon, but as always, take these rumors with a pinch of salt until Nintendo confirms otherwise.

@GameOtaku I purchased these games enough, I am just happy I get them for my 5$ a year. Either way I have the entire SNES library from all regions and most patched ROMS, not really a big deal and I will have them forever and have an unlimited amount of devices that I can hack and or us emulators to play them.

This is why I use my phone connected to my HDTV via HDMI if I ever wanted to play some earlier titles on my HDTV since Android has many great emulators and my phone runs even GameCube games pretty well!

Twitter user RatgorlHunter shared a recording of the emulators running on a Nintendo Switch. While the account has since been deleted, stills of the videos can be viewed via the Wayback Machine. Kotaku also reports, through its own sources, that the emulator only works on Switch dev kits and has seen footage of the emulator running the Game Boy Advance RPG Golden Sun.

Dataminer Mondo Mega has released a full list of all 40 Game Boy Advance games mentioned in the leaked files. The files show they have been tested for the emulator, and include notable picks like Metroid Fusion, Castlevania: Aira of Sorrow, and The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap. The full list includes:

Previously unannounced official Game Boy and Game Boy Advance emulators for Nintendo Switch have reportedly been found by data miners, who are currently circulated the dumped files on select Discord servers and forums.

While inclusion refers only to references in the files of the Game Boy Advance emulator, there are plenty of first-party Nintendo titles here that feel likely to make the cut, should Nintendo officially release this software.

In April 2022, Twitter user Trash_Bandatcoot reported leakers had found the files of a GBA emulator created by the Nintendo European Research and Development (NERD) team. Codenamed "Swoop," the emulator was found "dumped on a Switch" and not from Nintendo servers, as explained in the Twitter thread. Many outlets found Nintendo's Game Boy Advance emulator leak to be unique and likely legitimate, as no emulators for NSO had been found before it and the files, images, and videos of the emulator all appear to be valid.

Additionally, a host of games were found to have been tested on the Swoop emulator. Dataminer MondoMega on Twitter found a list of 39 games tested on the emulator that included popular titles such as Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones and The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap. There were additional screenshots in the leak from games not in the list, including the Generation 3 Pokmon games.

Though these leaks show a lot about Nintendo's intention to build an emulator for GBA games the Nintendo Switch, the one thing they didn't show was whether the company is planning to add it to NSO, and when that might be. Based on Nintendo's previous patterns, late 2023 is the most likely time the GBA emulator will come to the Switch. But until then, Nintendo Switch owners will have to wait until more news drops from a future Nintendo Direct.

Hello and welcome to this week's Nintendo recap. Lots of big news came out over the last seven days including a Game Boy emulator supposedly made for Nintendo Switch Online dropping annonymously on 4Chan, along with the list of games that has been tested on it. The excitment continues as Xenoblade Chronicles fans won't have to wait as long to play the third installment thanks to a release date change. In more serious news, Nintendo of America allegedly violated a worker's right to unionize leading to a complaint filed with the National Labor Relations Board. Is that enough for you? Let's find out.

There's been a lot of internet buzz this week around Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) getting emulators that can run Game Boy (GB), Game Boy Color (GBC), and Game Boy Advance (GBA) games. Twitter user @trashbandatcoot posted about an anonymous "leak" where someone had dumped links to the emulator files from a Switch development kit onto 4Chan. The Twitter thread also included screenshots of the supposedly official emulator working.

According to @Mondo_Mega on Twitter, there's evidence that 40 classic GBA games have been tested on the emulator like Pokmon Pinball, The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap, and Golden Sun. Screenshots of berries from Pokmon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald have apparently also been found. However, as Twitter user @Mondo_Mega stresses, just because these games were tested on this emulator "doesn't mean they'll actually launch on the service."

Now, we'd already assumed that some kind of Game Boy emulator would be coming to the Switch after noted dataminer OatmealDome dove into the NSO code years ago and discovered four emulator types codenamed "Kachikachi," "Canoe," "Hiyoko," and "Count." Turns out "Kachikachi" was for NES, "Canoe" was for SNES, with the last two remaining unknown.

Now, according to the 4Chan leak, "Hiyoko" is a GB and GBC emulator but there's also a GBA emulator codenamed "Sloop." Supposedly, the GB and GBC emulator was developed by Nintendo of Europe's Nintendo European Research & Development (NERD) while the GBA emulator was developed by a studio in Nintendo Japan. It's worth noting that NERD was also the company that worked on Super Mario 3D All Stars, a collection of three Mario classics that were recently remastered for Switch, lending further credibility to this supposed leak.

If this is real, we might see some of these retro games coming to NSO later this year. It would make sense for a GB emulator to come to NSO soon since the Wii U and 3DS eShops are closing soon taking with them virtual consoles for GB, GBA, GameCube, and DS games. In some ways, it would make sense for Nintendo to remove these other places to purchase retro games before introducing a new purchase option on Switch.

The highly-anticipated scripting feature, which has been in development for the past several months, has now been merged and is available in development builds. With this merged, users can now write and run scripts in Lua, as is possible in some other emulators.Currently, there is only preliminary support and many features are not yet exposed. These builds include an example script that shows how to interact with the emulator, and can pull information about the party from the US releases of the first three Pokmon generations. There is also documentation on the current API available on its own page.

A new release of mGBA, version 0.8.4, is available. This version is a bugfix release, which contains many stability and accuracy fixes. Notably, an issue in the 3DS version that would lead to the 3DS crashing when exiting the emulator, and an issue that would lead mGBA to appearing in a language other than English by default on macOS despite the system language being set to English, have been fixed. The previously mentioned bug with Advance Wars is still present in 0.8.4. It has also been discovered to affect Final Fantasy I. This can be worked around by using a dump of the official BIOS, or using a development build, also available on the download page, which has the bug fixed. An extensive list of changes follows after the cut.

As spotted by Twitter user Trashbandatcoot, files containing emulators in development by Nintendo Europe Research and Development originally leaked onto 4Chan under the code names of Hioyo for Game Boy software and Sloop for Game Boy Advance emulation. Another Twitter user by the name of RatgorlHunter uploaded alleged camera footage of the emulators booting up and running on Switch, although their account has since been deleted.

On top of that, Pokemon and gaming leaks account PoryLeeks told Kotaku that the emulator only works on a Switch dev kit currently. As for the games that could be emulated on the software, dozens of titles have been tested so far and include a number of classic Nintendo games and hidden gems. The leaked list spotted by VGC includes:

The Switch OLED is Nintendo's most current model of console and a hybrid model at that. Users can play games with the console docked and hooked up to a television screen or take it with them on the go for portable play. While each of these modes has their pros and cons, it does raise the question about what other ways exist for someone to enjoy Switch content. This is where emulators come into play. 006ab0faaa
