My name is Brian Minier, and I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the South Burlington community. Please feel free to click around the site to learn more about me, my experience, and why I want to represent our community in the Statehouse!
I was elected to the South Burlington School Board in 2019, and continued to serve until 2022. During that time, we tackled enormous issues: in addition to the familiar work of building school budgets and negotiating contracts, we continued assessing and addressing our schools’ infrastructure needs, pivoted quickly to pandemic-era education, drafted a long-overdue equity policy, and much more. My time on the School Board was fascinating and rewarding, offering me a wealth of insight into both local education and local politics.
After I stepped down, a new opportunity to serve our community came along quickly when our district’s representative, John Killacky, decided not to run again. I'm grateful to John for his compassionate and energetic leadership, and hope that I'll have a chance to continue the task of making our town and state a place where everyone can feel comfortable and safe, and where all of us can succeed to the best of our ability.
I believe the same qualities that made me an effective board member will enable me to represent all members of our district in this new capacity: I listen carefully to all perspectives; I enjoy learning, and can quickly synthesize a great deal of information; and I value clear and honest communication. My time on the School Board strengthened my belief that the best decisions are reached only after considering a broad range of views. Perhaps the clearest example of this was the creation of the district’s equity policy. The final policy was reached only after several months, multiple drafts, and input from fellow board members, district officials, students, parents, and community members. What was achieved in the end owed a great deal to our community’s input, and was the better for it. Should I be fortunate enough to be elected, I hope you will join me in continuing to make South Burlington, and all of Vermont, even better than they already are.
