Minecraft Tribes  was created by Pentolach, a Minecraft user since May 20, 2011, and a fan of Survivor since 2009. He created his own Minecraft Realm, named the Lethantia Network, in order to play general survival worlds with other Minecraft users. This realm was in a "beta" stage for about the first year that it was up after the initial subscription in October of 2014. A "beta" stage survival server was played for around 9-10 months until Pentolach decided to cancel the subscription. Right after this "beta" stage was over, many people left, some until the Realm was purchased again, some for good. The Realm was, in a way, revived when Pentolach bought another subscription during February of 2016. The second stage lasted for a good year and a half and a second wave of players began to consistently play on the Realm.

Right around this time, Pentolach conjured up the idea to combine the unique experience of playing Survivor and the game of Minecraft to create the series of Minecraft Tribes, being played more or less the same way that the game of Survivor is played. Having been a critical success among contestants and spectators, a total of seven seasons have been played out.
