A big part of this practice is to improve overall body posture so that appropriate muscles are engaged in daily tasks to avoid common problems that come with aging such as rounding of upper back, forward head posture, neck humps, reduced lung capacity due to tight intercostal muscles and tight hip flexors.
Being able to move the way you want is liberating: it not only allows you to independently complete daily chores but also pursue physical activities such as running, hiking, dancing, sports, gardening or travel. Learning the right way to move with mindfulness and stability to avoid injury and dysfunction (where one muscle group is overused as it compensates for a connected muscle group which is not functioning optimally) is essential for all age groups. The Move Well Space encourages you to age well by practicing a variety of fun movements with self awareness. These movements are created to be simple, easy to follow and feel fun rather than like a tedious workout. At the end of the session, I promise you will be bursting with energy, feeling the length in your spine, a spring in your step and space in the tissues surrounding your joints.
It’s essential to learn movements that promote nervous system health, which is often under stress. Certain practices help our bodies heal and recover from physical, emotional and mental exhaustion which is essential to repair our muscles and tissues and enjoy a better night's sleep. When we release trauma or emotional blockages stored in our bodies through therapeutic and somatic movements, we feel light, relaxed and an ease of movement.
