The FCL Rays won the Florida Complex League championship with a record of 42-15 to be crowned the regular-season champions. The FLC Rays ended their season with three wins that were just enough to keep ahead of the FLC Yankees, who were 3.5 games behind the Rays at the end. The Rays won their last game at home against the FCL Braves to seal the deal for the championship on Saturday, September 18th, with a score of 5-4. The Rays came back in the 7th inning, the final inning, as it was a seven-inning game, to score two runs to win the ballgame after a one-run triple by Zach Huffins tied the game. Dru Baker reached on a fielder's choice, which later scored Huffins to win the ballgame. Rays Catcher Kenny Pipper had two hits, both singles. Furthermore, the Rays pitching staff used all available pitchers to close out the ball game. With this win, the Rays hope to keep their minor league luck going as all of their affiliates and their major league club are in first or second place with chances of making the playoffs.
