Keys for the identification of Bibionidae

British species

The British species of Bibionidae were keyed by Freeman & Lane (1985), published by the Royal Entomological Society in their Handbooks for the Identification of British Insects series, volume 9, part 7. There have been some changes in the nomenclature in genus Bibio since this publication. According to the RES website this publication is now out of print. I can send a pdf copy for particular named genera on request.

The second couplet of the African key separates the two British genera as does the world key at couplet 4.
