It is the Basic Computer Course (BCC) for students of MIS (Management of Information Systems). Some of the MIS students may already familiar with basic programming and Web surfing. Yet computer science is far more than that. Students should start to explore different computer science subjects in which they are planning to major. This course plays a role as trigger to help you to explore them. The providing of the overview of computer science is served as a foundation of future courses.

It begins with the fundamentals of information encoding, data storage, and computer architecture; progress to the study of operating system and computer networks; investigates the topics of algorithms, programming languages, and software development; explores techniques for enhancing the accessibility of information; considers some major applications of computer technology via graphics and artificial intelligence; and closes with an introduction to the abstract theory of computation.

Announcements (Fall 2017)

• 8/29: For student who is interesting in (or needs) taking this course, please come to the class in 9/11 or 9/12 to make sure your name is on the class list, especially for who studies in MIS, double major or minor. However, the number of seats (60) in this classroom is limited; it is NOT guaranteed that you may get lecture's signature unless you are MIS freshman student. Students from other department have a slight chance to get lecture's signature but most of them may not get signed due to seat limitation.
• 9/13: We have a forum in Google Groups (see link in class info) for this class! If you have any question, you can post your questions in the forum. TAs will try to answer your question there.
• 9/18: TA time is announced! If you need face-to-face assistance, you can find TAs from 12:10 to 13:00 on Thursday at Room 260535 in College of Commerce Building.
• 10/30: Homework hand-in status can be found here! If you have any question, please contact TAs.
• 12/11: You must hand-in your Term Paper (a hard copy) in the class in 12/25 or 12/26. You must submit an e-copy to TAs by FTP (IP:140.119.19.178, username/pass: stu_mon/stu_mon and stu_tue/stu_tue) before 12/25 at 14:00 or 12/26 at 9:00. Your filename should be your student ID plus a version number, for example, 106306000-1.docx. TA will grade your term paper by using your latest submitted file before the deadline. If you have any problem of uploading your e-copy of term paper to the FTP server, you may send your term paper by email to the TA.
