Description
Libre tránsito is an interactive electronic literature piece disguised as a retro digital game. Through procedural rhetoric, it explores mobility privilege, systemic friction, and border control. As users navigate the territory, they encounter the strict rules of a system where the code itself becomes an act of resistance.
Artistic Statement
Libre tránsito utilizes procedural rhetoric to reflect on the complexities of human migration, borders, and systemic inequality. Presented through a minimalist arcade interface, the piece invites the user to assume an active role within a clearly divided geopolitical territory. However, the traditional expectations of digital control and mastery are quickly subverted by the underlying programming.
The work explores the paradox between universal human rights—which often exist as abstract, untouchable guarantees—and the physical and bureaucratic friction experienced by marginalized bodies in transit. By assigning distinct programmed behaviors to different visual elements, the digital landscape becomes a metaphor for the real-world architectures of privilege, surveillance, and exclusion.
