Destiempo, part of the Memoria series, is an interactive digital poem that explores the intersection of migration, memory, and the erosion of identity through the lens of Alzheimer’s disease. Utilizing a kinetic interface where verses "take flight" like migrating birds, the work visualizes the struggle to retain connection across both geographic and cognitive borders. As the poem repeats its cycle, it documents the tension between the desire to document the past and the inevitable disappearance of the "home" we carry within our minds.

Artistic Statement

Destiempo transforms the screen into a sanctuary of fragile signs. By merging the motif of the duck—a symbol of guidance and stability—with the structural disintegration of text, the work reflects the helplessness of witnessing a loved one slip into the "nublazón" (the clouding) of dementia. The interactive animation serves as a metaphor for the desperate attempt to hold onto names, faces, and shared histories before they vanish. The work is a meditation on the impossibility of stopping the clock, where code becomes an act of mourning and an attempt to reconcile the green, vibrant past with the encroaching shadows of the present.
