History Comes to Life at The Qattery during the Midlands Fringe weekend
Date Night Improv promise to bring history to life right in front of you, entirely made up on the spot. This is a brave promise because the one thing I learnt about history at school was that there was a lot of it.
With the help of the audience, a random date, and a reference book, the invasion of Sicily by Pope Innocent the second in 1139 was chosen as the historical event to be recreated.
The details of Innocent’s invasion of Sicily in 1139 had been sketchy for me until now. Using the fruits of their expensive educations Date Night Improv were able to shine a bright light on this murky event. Despite cunning hat disguises the invading Pope was, during the course of the show, unable to fool the Sicilian border guard whose sharp questioning revealed him to be the buffer of corn, perturber of olives, wearer of a cloak made from stray cat coats, Jeff Innocent. The not so Innocent Jeff was popped into a porcelain-lined prayer-proof room to be interrogated by villainous voiced King Roger Roger. Unable to resolve their differences, despite the offer of a boat of olives for the Kingdom of Sicily, Roger Roger released Popey who waltzed back to the Vatican.
Hannah and Autumn, Date Night Improv, kept their promise. History was brought to life. This engaging and entertaining duo make improv look easy. A great way to spend an hour in the very hospitable Qattery Café.
