Shortly after 9/11, the U.S. sent troops to Afghanistan to eliminate terrorist training camps and to depose the ruling Taliban's terrorist-condoning leaders.
The biggest dilemma is that most of the people of Afghanistan support and approve of the Taliban. In a democratic election, the Taliban would be placed in power. Ironically, the Americans (traditionally democratic) were reluctant to allow Afghanistan to be a democracy.
U.S. troops in Afghanistan were seen by the citizens there as intruding, imperialistic, and unholy invaders of their country. Our troops frequently were the victims of bombings, suicide attacks, and ambushes. We lost 2,459 soldiers in this conflict.
By the year 2021, our troops had been in Afghanistan for nearly 20 years in attempt to prevent the Taliban from coming back into power. Little to no progress was being made and our soldiers continued to be killed.
DECISION: Joe Biden. Do you keep American troops in Afghanistan in the longest military operation in U.S. History, or do you withdraw them, likely conceding the government of the country back into the hands of the Taliban?
