The following measures are some that were taken to address the Energy Crisis:

A national speed limit was established: 55 mph

Rationing of Gasoline. You could only go to the gas station on even or odd days, depending on the last digit of your license plate

Gas station hours limited. This led to very long lines at the pump

NASCAR shortened races. (e.g., Daytona 450).

No Christmas lights

Thermostate temperature down in the winter, up in the summer
