The Afghanistan "freedom fighters" who were supported by the U.S. as they drove out the Russians in the 1980s, took over the nation in the 1990s. Their leadership is called "the Taliban."
When the Russians were expelled from Afghanistan, the Taliban and its supporters turned their wrath against the United States.
One particular organization that emerged was called Al Qaeda, who began training in Afghanistan to engage in terrorist acts against the West. Their leader is a Saudi man named Osama Bin Laden.
Their beef with the U.S. included these complaints:
1. Support of Israel vs. the Palestinians
2. Interfering in Middle Eastern political affairs in order to secure cheap oil
3. Desecrating Muslim sacred geography such as Mecca and Medina
4. Worshipping three gods
5. Behaving like an international bully
In 1993, terrorists trained by Al Qaeda bombed the basement of the World Trade Center and were caught.
In 2000, Al Qaeda suicide terrorists bombed the battleship U.S.S. Cole in the port of Yemen, killing 17 Americans
In 2001 Al Qaeda terrorists entered the U.S. and entered flight training schools.
On September 11, these trainees, with coordinated teams of Al Qaeda terrorists boarded four airplanes with suicidal missions to use the planes as missiles against premium U.S. targets (World Trade, Pentagon, Capitol). Nearly 3,000 Americans were killed by the terrorists on 9/11.

DECISION FOUR: Barack Obama. Your intelligence sources believe they have located the residence of Al Qaeda leader, Osama Bin Laden. But they're not certain. It is in the nation of Pakistan. The Pakistani government has warned the U.S. against conducting raids within their borders.
