I have an xbox live vision camera that worked well with older os's, but doesn't seem to work with el capitain. Any way to get it to work? I'm using a Mac Mini with a monitor, and it would be nice to have a camera as well (without having to buy a new one). Thanks!

I would think it should work as is. However, as discussed in this reddit discussion page, it seems that a workaround can be found for some, but not all, users who share your problem. I don't use xbox live vision camera so I have not tested any of the possible suggestions in the redditi page.

If none of the four suggestions above gets your xbox live vision camera working with El Cap, given the low cost of some Mac compatible UVC webcams, it may be wiser to opt for the new camera that is known to work with your system. A reliable retailer will be able to warrant that the new cam he sells is compatible with your Mac.

Thanks for the response. The camera indeed does not work with El Capitan, and none of the suggestions by Apple helped. (Incidentally, they assume that it's a firewire connection, but the xbox live vision camera is usb.) The reddit discussion seems to be more about enabling a controller for games than a camera. (I browsed through the discussion, and a search for "cam" yielded no results.)

All xbox live vision cameras are all USB devices. They are listed as UVC devices. As such, they should work without additional software on any Mac using OS X version 10.4.9 and later. For these OS X versions, all software necessary for UVC device use is automatically included by the OS X installer.

I have also successfully tested external iSight with my 15 inch Early 2011 Macbook Pro. It seems older cameras like xbox live vision and external (Firewire) iSight might best be used with Macs of a similar age.

If your oldass 360 kinect used to work, then [footage deleted] and now you're trying it again only to see that only the camera device driver won't install?? ready to use the thing as a murder weapon??

Just completed my own mod of an xbox live vision cam. The black 'lens attachment' on the pcb (see images from gdheib0430 on the 14 Jan) has a standard M12 0.5 screw thread fitting, meaning it will work with the various black metal webcam adaptors you can buy from Astronomy websites. The snub-nose of the Vision Cam needed to be widened in order to allow the Webcam Adaptor to fit in, but this was fairly easy to achieve.

As drivers, I've used xboxdrv and xpad before on my notebook (from Ubuntu LTS-Versions 12.04 until 18.04), but xboxdrv failed to be fully recognised with some games on my new PC with a fresh Kubuntu 18.04 LTS installed, because xboxdrv it is unmaintained now (since about 2 years). The last Ubuntu LTS it was working perfectly for me was 14.04, just with installing the PPA.

Unlike stock xpad kernel driver, xboxdrv provides a wide variety of configuration options: it allows you to simulate keyboard and mouse events, remap buttons and axes, apply autofire, invert axis, tweak axis sensitivity, emulate throttle and rudder controls and send macros.

I have the Xbox 360 Kinect camera, a windows 10 Nuvision tablet and a 12v rechargeable power system. These items are set up on pistol grip tablet holder I customized for an SLS Microsoft Kinect stickman camera for Ghost hunting. I have downloaded the Kinect 1.8 SDK and the Kinect tool kit . Once the Kinect software is downloaded I am unable be to open it or have the software recognize the Kinect camera. I've watched every video on YouTube , factory reset my windows in 10 tablet PC as well as purchased a new Xbox 360 Kinect camera with still no results. I desperately need help.

Thank you.Jeff C.

Had anyone ever encountered an issue when playing with a 360 (I'm using a Razer Sabertooth) gamepad in Windows where one or both of the sticks seems like it's pushing upwards slightly? The issue appears only in certain games but is constant rather than intermittent in those games.I get it in both Assassin's Creed Unity (but not Black Flag) where the camera pushes up above Arnot all the time (but I can easily move it back) and also in Valkyria Chronicles where I can't even get past the menu as the highlighted menu item scrolls as if the left stick were jammed all the way up.I've tried different USB ports and the like with no success. I'm not aware of any separate drivers that can be installed (razer don't seem to have any and windows treats it as a standard 360 controller). The bit that really fries my noodle is that it works perfectly in other games!
